No character errors recorded yet.

Calculation Methodology & Accuracy Note

Net WPM = (Correct Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Elapsed Minutes. Keystroke Accuracy measures every keystroke attempted (including mistakes later fixed with Backspace), ensuring 100% accuracy is only awarded for an error-free run.

Pro Typing Tips to Boost WPM & Accuracy

1. Prioritize Accuracy Over Raw Burst Speed

Every typo requires noticing the mistake, hitting Backspace, and re-typing the letter—costing at least three keystrokes. Aiming for 97%+ accuracy naturally elevates your net WPM.

2. Master the Home Row & Light Keystrokes

Rest your index fingers lightly on F and J. Let each finger return to its anchor position immediately after striking a key, and avoid bottoming out keys with excessive force.

3. Read One Word Ahead

Train your eyes to scan 1 to 2 words ahead of your active cursor. Previewing upcoming punctuation and capitalization lets your fingers queue the next motion smoothly without hesitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does TypeRush calculate Words Per Minute (WPM)?
TypeRush follows the international five-character word standard, where every 5 characters (including spaces and punctuation) count as 1 word. Gross WPM is (All Typed Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Elapsed Minutes. Net WPM counts only accurately matched characters: (Correct Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Elapsed Minutes, ensuring uncorrected errors cannot inflate your typing speed.
Do errors corrected with Backspace affect my Accuracy score?
Yes. TypeRush tracks True Keystroke Accuracy: (Correct Keystrokes ÷ Total Attempted Keystrokes) × 100. If you mistype a letter, press Backspace, and type the right letter, the initial mistake is still counted in your attempted keystrokes so you receive an honest accuracy metric. The Results Dashboard also displays your Final Text Match percentage alongside your keystroke accuracy.
When does the countdown timer start?
The timer remains in the Ready state until you type your first valid character inside the workspace. You can take as much time as you need to read the opening words and position your hands before starting.
Is my typing history stored on a server?
No. All personal bests and recent test records are saved strictly inside your browser's local storage (localStorage). Your data stays on your device, works offline once loaded, and can be cleared with a single click at any time.
